I didn’t know what to do.

I had put up with Shelly’s jumping and disobedient behavior for so long that it was something I just accepted because she was always so happy to see me, but now I was desperate.

I started looking for a dog behaviorist online.

That’s when I found…

Secrets To Dog Training

I Got Tired of Yelling at my Dog

I got so tired of yelling at my beautiful puppy and seeing the confused and hurt look in her eyes after she jumped up to say ‘Hi Daddy’ when I got home.

After so many years of it being OK, I  didn’t consider it bad dog behavior.

This wasn’t my puppy being an aggressive dog; it was just how we said ‘Hi’ to each other, every day.

It didn’t matter that my ‘puppy’ was a 90 lb Rottweiler coming at me full tilt, because I was (and still am) a 250 lb ‘Dog Catcher’ who can handle it.

This was not bad dog behavior or my dog being overly aggressive, this was expected behavior.

This was how we said ‘Hello!’…Rottweiler Style.

…but things have changed.

I Had a Dog Behavior Problem

I have two precious babies now and my puppy’s jumping and excitable behavior is not acceptable anymore.

What do I do?

I don’t want to get rid of my dog.

I love my dog.

I promised her I’d take care of her forever.

What do I do?

I Had A Problem

One that was affecting a very important part of my life, my relationship with the woman I love and my children’s safety.

Unfortunately, the source of that problem was the other most important thing in my life, my beautiful and wonderful puppy dog, the always amazing (and sometimes smelly) Shelly-bean.

…and that’s not really fair either, because the true source of her bad dog behavior lies with me.

I’m the one who neglected to correct her behavior when I knew she shouldn’t be jumping up and acting like she did.

I’m the one who failed to train my dog, but how do you teach an old dog new tricks?

Is it even possible?

I needed help and I needed it fast.

I needed the help of a dog behaviorist.

I Found A Dog Behaviorist

I’m not a very trusting soul when it comes to buying things like this online so I did a lot of looking around and I’m here to tell you, there are a lot of dog training sites to look at online.

When I came across Secrets To Dog Training the first time, it was just a name I jotted down on my growing list.

After a short time, I had been to quite a few dog training review sites and this Secrets to Dog Training kept popping up.

I now know the reason so many people were talking about it and I am so very glad I decided to give them a try.

My dog is not perfect, and I don’t think she ever will be, but the simple techniques Dan suggests have transformed my best friend into a dog I am so very proud of today.

Thanks Dan.

My Bad Dog Put Me In A Bind

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

The Dog Silencer Pro

I‘m no dog behaviorist but I do have big, stupid dog named Shelly who definitely needed one.

I was in a pinch because I’ve let my dog do whatever she wants for about 9 yrs now and my new girlfriend doesn’t like that.

Especially when Shelly wants to jump all over her and the kids.

You can see what I did to fix my aggressive dog problem, CLICK HERE

I Should Have Started the Obedience Training Sooner

Shelly is my Rottweiler and I love her dearly.

She has been with me for 9 years now (since she was a puppy) and over the years we had come to an ‘understanding’;

As long as it didn’t make a huge mess or cost me too much…

Shelly could basically do whatever she wanted.

That All Changed When I Met Monica

Shelly is a Rottweiler, a dog breed with a reputation for being aggressive.

My Shelly is not an overly aggressive dog.

She is not vicious or mean and she doesn’t growl at or bite people (or poop in the house, yay!), but she is very excitable and she likes to jump up and say ‘Hi!’ to everyone.

Did I already mention that she’s a 90 lb Rottweiler?

For so long Shelly had been ‘Queen of the Castle’.

It was Shelly’s yard, Shelly’s couch and Shelly’s… well, everything for as long as she (or I) could remember, but that all changed about a year ago when I met my fiancée, Monica.

Things Change When Kids Are Involved

It was just me and my dog for quite a few years before we met Monica.

Monica was awesome!

I liked her a lot and so did Shelly.

Shelly would demonstrate how much by jumping on Monica often.

What was even better was that Monica liked us just as much, even me!

Score!

We all got along famously, so we started to spend a lot more time together.

Monica even had a stupid dog of her own, Jones.

He’s a Springer Spaniel (I’ve never seen so much dog hair in one place in all my life).

Monica also had two small children (both of whom I love unbelievably) and it became glaringly apparent that I had to end Shelly’s bad habit of jumping up on people immediately (or sooner, if possible).

I didn’t need her taking out the woman of my dreams in a ‘joyous fit of greeting’ or worse yet, hurting one of the kids.

What Is A Dog Behaviorist?

I Found Dog Behaviorist Online

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

The Dog Silencer Pro

I’ve always known that I was the one responsible for most of my dogs bad behavior.

I should have spent more time with her and given her the the attention she deserved, but I didn’t.

So here I am, siccing a dog behaviorist on her.

Some Wishes Do Come True

When I met Monica, I wasn’t looking for anyone special, but that is exactly what I got.

I also got two beautiful children with the package.

It was more than I could have ever wished for, but I still had a big dog that jumped all over the place and didn’t listen.

Who was going to help me out with that wish?

Dog Behaviorists do Exist and They Really can Help!

Turns out there really are dog behaviorists and he was exactly what I needed to fix my Rottweilers jumping problem.

If you are anything like me, you love your dog; fleas, slobber and all.

You probably love her even if she has some aggressive dog behavior, like jumping up because she is so excited to see you or barking at just about everything that moves because she is looking out for your safety and your stuff.

I can’t really put a positive spin on her other bad dog behavior, like chewing up my work gloves or bolting out the gate and temporarily forgetting her name for a half hour, but I still love my dog and I really do want the best for her.

I just wished there was an easier way to get her to be a ‘good dog’.

I found a site called Kingdom of Pets and they offered an online E-book called Secrets to Dog Training.

If I Had Only Turned to a Dog Behaviorist First

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

I wish I had known what a dog behaviorist was back then, but I didn’t.

So I did the best I could with what little I had.

My poor dog.

Not a Very Good Dog Trainer

I bought a book on dog training written by some ‘professional dog trainers’ who said they owned some dog obedience school and claimed to have trained and ‘groomed the behavior’ of many blue ribbon show dogs.

The book was on sale so I bought it.

It was supposed to be about training dogs and went over stuff about dog agility and crate training (whatever that is).

There were a lot of pictures with dogs on leashes and they looked like they were obeying and heeling, some were sitting and begging and a few were even shaking hands or paws or whatever.

I wasn’t going to ‘show’ my dog and Shelly was a Rottweiler, not a hunting dog.

She wasn’t a bird dog or a deer hound and I didn’t need my dog to retrieve anything for me so a lot of the topics covered in the book didn’t really apply to us, but it sure did want me to buy a lot of special collars and leashes and harnesses and DVD’s and other books written by the same guys.

It even came with an order form.

I Tried a Few of Their Techniques

I tried a few of their professional dog training techniques while walking Shelly around the neighborhood but apparently my $12 horse lead did not compare to the $40 or $50 retractable leash and collar combo they offered in the guide.

I could even have her name engraved on it for a nominal fee, that were suggested in the training manual, so not much dog training was accomplished.

Besides, that wasn’t the behavior I was having problems with.

She wouldn’t stop barking.

She never came when I called and an open gate was an invitation for her to run, run, run.

I think I mentioned somewhere that I weigh in at about 250 so not a whole lot of dog chasing was going on.

Why Won’t My Dog Listen?

Friday, December 11th, 2009

I spent years hoping my dogs behavior problem would just take care of itself.

It didn’t.

I needed the help of a dog behaviorist.

My Dog’s Doing Exactly What I’ve Let Her do For Years!

It was crunch time and having exhausted my limited supply of dog training techniques, I did what any man in my situation would do, I turned to the internet. Not knowing I was looking for a dog behaviorist, I tried searching for tips on dog training then dog training techniques and even clicked on a dog psychologist site to see what the doggie couch would look like. I followed up on the Dog Whisperer but Cesar wasn’t really my style. Besides, it looked like I was going to have to buy a lot of stuff from him, too, just to get started. Thanks Cesar Millan, but no thanks. Tsst!

What The Hell is a Dog Behaviorist?

Then I came across one of the  silliest terms I’ve ever heard in my life, a dog behaviorist.

The silliest term I’ve seen so far is: behaviorist dog, whatever that is.

My first thought was, ‘what the hell is a dog behaviorist?’

My second thought was, ‘that sounds like exactly what I need’.

I needed to correct my dog’s aggressive behavior immediately.

I needed a pro.

I needed a professional dog trainer to spell out exactly what steps I needed to take to get Shelly to stop jumping on everyone she met, especially the kids.

Can A Dog Behaviorist Help Me?

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

My name is Dave and boy do I have troubles.

I’m in need of a dog behaviorist.

What’s Up Shellys Aggressive Dog Behavior?

My dog Shelly is a nine year old, 90 lb Rottweiler and I love my big, stinky, aggressive puppy dearly.

She has been with me since she was just a puppy and while it has been a rewarding and definitely wonderful nine year journey, I believe we both would have benefited enormously from a dog behaviorist.

We made it through the puppy breath months and her ‘biting puppy’ phase with her needle sharp puppy teeth poking into everything, including me.

Her constant yapping and whining were just barely tolerable at bedtime and while I’m not a certified dog behaviorist, I knew she just behaved that way to get attention, so I did the best I could.

There were days though, that my tiny K-9 got negative attention for all of her efforts.

I’m not too proud of those days.

I Didn’t Want to Treat my Puppy Dog Bad

I didn’t want to be mean to my dog and I never wanted my Shelly-bean to ever be afraid of me but, as a single guy with no clue about dog training or obedience training, this is exactly what was starting to happen.

My dog training methods included yelling at her more than talking to her and smacking her instead of petting her to correct her bad dog behavior.

I was basically teaching her how to be an aggressive puppy and it was starting to show in how she reacted to my commands.

Housebreaking

Somehow I figured out how to get her to go potty outside and aside from the occasional accident every now and again, her puppy potty training was a pretty painless process.

I was very consistent when it came to letting her out every few hours.

This was about the only bit of puppy training I got right.

Any dog behaviorist would have been proud.
